Insurance Verification Specialist

This critical role involves meticulously verifying patient insurance benefits and eligibility to ensure accurate billing and patient financial understanding in a high-volume medical office environment .

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Verify patient insurance coverage, benefits, and eligibility for scheduled appointments and procedures.
  2. Obtain accurate demographic and insurance information from patients and/or referrals.
  3. Communicate clearly with patients regarding their insurance benefits, co-pays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket expenses.
  4. Obtain necessary pre-authorizations or referrals as required by insurance plans.
  5. Document all verification details, communications, and authorization numbers accurately within the practice management system/EHR.
  6. Identify and resolve insurance discrepancies or issues that may impact patient care or billing.
  7. Collaborate effectively with front desk staff, billing, and clinical teams to ensure a smooth patient experience.

Qualifications & Skills:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent (medical office or insurance verification experience preferred).
  2. Proven experience in insurance verification for a medical practice, hospital, or billing company is highly desired.
  3. Strong knowledge of various insurance carriers (e.g., commercial, Medicare, Medicaid, PPOs, HMOs) and their authorization processes.
  4. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and information gathering.
  5. Ability to multitask and manage a high volume of verification requests efficiently.
  6. Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) and practice management software.
  7. Strong communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with patients, insurance companies, and staff.
  8. Ability to read and interpret insurance explanation of benefits (EOBs) and fee schedules is a plus.
  9. Professional, organized, and proactive approach to problem-solving.
