Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Corrections is seeking a Corrections Industry Supervisor to work at the Vandalia Correctional Center. This position is responsible for instructing and directing Individual in Custody workers in the proper use of equipment used in the Milk/Juice processing plant, coordinating the production of all orders, and maintaining quality control of all repair work performed. Essential Functions

  • Supervises staff.
  • Instructs and directs individual in custody workers in the proper use of tools, equipment and materials utilized in the Milk/Juice Processing Plant.
  • Maintains master list of Earned Program Sentence Credit for individuals in custody.
  • Coordinates the production of all orders.
  • Maintains quality control of all repair work performed.
  • Acts as staff assistant to Industry Superintendent in the overall operation.
  • Report infractions of rules in accordance with Administrative Directives.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years high school or completion of an approved training course.
  • Requires two (2) years of supervisory experience logistics/distribution.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience in production.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience maintaining workflow in a group setting.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience in inventory management.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience in management of tools in a correctional setting.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience in preventative maintenance of equipment.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience maintaining production schedules.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience in shipping and receiving procedures.
  • Prefers forklift certification.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires completion of an approved course in guard training within six (6) months of employment.
  • This position is considered medium work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(c)). Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Requires ability to attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties.
  • This position has been found to meet the requirements in section 4A-101 of the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act requiring the occupant/employee to file a Statement of Economic Interest. The Illinois Governmental Ethics Act (5 ILCS 420/4A et seq.) requires certain state officials and employees to file annual Statements of Economic Interest with the Office of the Secretary of State that will be made available for examination and copying by the public. All employees required to file a Statement of Economic Interest are also required to file the Supplemental Statement of Economic Interest with the Executive Ethics Commission. (See Executive Order 15-09) Fines and penalties apply to untimely filings.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires the ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs, regardless of the position held, is prohibited.
