The NYC Department of Design and Construction, Law Division seeks a full-time Agency Attorney, level 1. Under the supervision and direction of the General Counsel, First Deputy General Counsel, and DDC’s management team, the attorney will conduct various legal assignments, including:

1. Contract drafting
2. Real property issues, including licenses, access, leasing, and eminent domain
3. Procurement issues, bid protests, and alternative procurement methods
4. Review and revision of contract documents and communication of procurement requirements
5. Litigation support and claims analysis
6. Review of FOIL responses and coordination with public relations
7. Legal guidance on conflicts of interest
8. Review of real property and land use issues, including condemnation proceedings
9. Preparation of funding and security agreements
10. Procurement appeals and decision drafting
11. Support on employment and labor issues
12. Legal research and interpretation of laws and regulations

The role also involves assisting with other legal matters such as public procurement, construction law, property issues, UCC, environmental law, leases, insurance, access agreements, conflicts of interest, and employment law. Routine tracking and reporting of work are required.

Authorization to work in the U.S. is required. The NYC Department of Design and Construction does not sponsor visas.

Minimum Qualifications

• Admission to the NY State Bar
• One year of legal experience after admission, or six months as an Agency Attorney Intern

Incumbents must remain members of the NY State Bar in good standing.

Preferred Skills

• Organized with strong multitasking skills
• Excellent communication skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel or similar software
